Fee Structure
The Invercargill Rowing Club fee structure is different, more diverse and lower than most other rowing clubs throughout New Zealand. (The annual garden fertiliser fundraising event in August/September subsidises membership fees by approx. $400 per member). It follows a user pays philosophy, so that a base fee is set for the year and then depending on the activities and events that you decide to get involved in, associated costs will be invoiced during the season. Your season subscription ends on 31 August, with the new rowing season commencing on 1 September. This is the date you can renew your membership online, via the club’s web site.
Beginning Rowers
Seven Introductory Session Fee: ($70.00)
This is for those who have never been a member of a rowing club before and would like to give it a go under the guidance of a club coach, or an experienced club member, to see if they like it and want to continue. Individuals must be registered via the club’s web site before they go on the water in a club boat for the first time, for club liability reasons. If they continue beyond the seven on water sessions the introduction fee will be deducted from the full base fee, for the current season.
Active Rowers
Full Member Base Fee: ($442.00)
This is calculated to include a majority of the club members to cover the fixed annual costs of operating the club facilities. It is based on the assumption that members, or their guardians, would also actively participate in the annual fertiliser fundraiser that reduces each individual fee by more than $400 per year.
A 20% discount is available off each member's base fee for families with more than one competitive, or recreational financial member.
Actual user pay costs are added to the base fee as follows:
- Southland Rowing Association affiliation fee to compete in all regattas
- NZ Rowing affiliation fee to compete in national and regional regattas
- Individual regatta entry fees where applicable
- Boat towing actual costs with minimum fee applicable for Twizel & Dunstan regattas to ensure club trailer use costs are recovered
Full members include:
- Novices - Are those members who are rowing for a season in competitive regattas for the first time. They may be in student squads, or adult squads.
- Students - May be in Under 14, Under 16 or Under 18 squads
- Adults - Are senior rowers that are under 27 who row competitively in regattas.
- Masters - Are 27 years, or older who row competitively in regattas.
Adaptive Competitive Rower Base Fee: ($208,00)
This is to accommodate those members who mentally, or physically qualify for competing in adaptive and Special Olympic races and separately funded their own quad skiff and sculls for training and use at regattas.
The fee is based on the assumption that members, or their guardians, would also actively participate in the club’s annual fertiliser fundraiser that reduces each individual fee by more than $400 per year.
Actual user pay costs are added to the base fee as follows:
- Southland Rowing Association affiliation fee to compete in all regattas
- NZ Rowing affiliation fee to compete in national and regional regattas
- Individual regatta entry fees where applicable
- Boat towing actual costs are shared between all active rowers participating the event, with minimum fee applicable for Twizel & Dunstan regattas to ensure club trailer maintenance, insurance, registration and warrant costs are recovered.
Adaptive Recreational Rowers: ($100.00)
This is to accommodate those members who mentally, or physically qualify to be in this category, but seldom go on the water, and occasionally use the ergs and gym facilities.
Casual Recreation Rower Fee: ($312.00)
This is to accommodate experienced rowers who do not row in any regattas, but want to go for an occasional row in the clubs non-competitive racing skiffs, coastal rowing boat and use the ergs and gym facilities. The fee is based on the assumption that members would also actively participate in the annual fertiliser fundraiser that reduces each individual fee by more than $400 per year.
Dual Club Members Competitive Rowing Fee: ($265.00)
This is to accommodate mainly the Awarua Boating Club financial members who store boats in the IRC storage sheds and full use the IRC facilities and equipment for training and showering, but not the use of the club boats, unless in a composite crew with IRC rowers.
Tertiary Student Four Month Fee: ($167.00)
This is to accommodate experienced rowers who return to Invercargill from university during the summer months and wish to train and compete in local regattas using the club facilities and boats
